Everything You Need to Know about Antenatal Health

During pregnancy, many questions linger in a woman’s mind regarding the health of both her baby and her own. Antenatal care is an important part of health care that mothers should be sure to take advantage of to ensure a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Antenatal care can be obtained from various health professionals, such as a midwife or an obstetrician, who will regularly check on the progress of the pregnancy as well as keep an eye on the whole well-being of the mother to be and her baby.

Antenatal care support takes the form of check-ups and appointments with a midwife or GP. It also includes a series of tests that rule out any health conditions or illnesses, such as diabetes or toxaemia, which could cause problems to either the mother or the baby. These tests ensure that both mother and baby are in good health and that treatment can be given promptly if an illness is detected.

The health professional provides the pregnant woman with a record of all the antenatal care and check-ups, which are known as antenatal notes. These are important, because they contain all the important findings and notes made during the appointments.

The patient should keep this record safe and carry it all times, especially during succeeding appointments and when she enters the hospital to give birth.

Pregnancy may seem daunting and scary, especially for first time mothers. However, there is no need to worry, because antenatal care appointments give mothers a chance to discuss everything about their pregnancy with their health professionals. These appointments can also provide mothers-to-be with tips, advice and the guidance needed to get through their pregnancy.
