The Jaguar E-type has been reborn as the Eagle Speedster.
It was launched at London’s Salon Privé motor show, and is a comprehensive restoration as opposed to a replica. It gets Eagle’s 4.7-litre straight-six engine upgrade, and is good for around 300bhp and 340lb ft. In a car weighing less than 1100kg, that ensures pretty healthy performance – a sub-5sec dash to 60mph and a 175mph maximum.
There’s updated suspension, too, while Eagle’s fitted its own five-speed manual gearbox. To aid dynamics the wheel track is increased and wheel arch width has been extended.
Styling is a key change, with a true speedster bodystyle achieved by a lower, raked back windscreen, extended rear deck, an abundance of body-coloured metal and the distinct lack of a roof.
The Speedster is a one-off for now, and is built to a unique customer specification including a four tailpipe exhaust system, original Jaguar dash and a host of modern luxuries such as heated seats, a remote opening fuel cap and a high end, ipod compatible stereo.
No word on how many more will be made, but each of Eagle’s restorations is tailored specifically to customer needs. Over 5500 man-hours went into this first E-type Speedster.
